Switch by Chip Heath and Dan Heath – Complementary Considerations – Part 3 – Shape the Path

Business mavens, Chip Heath and Dan Heath, they released her new book, entitled "Switch change: What if change is very difficult," (Broadway, 2010) in February. The authors address change at individual, organizational and societal level. Change affects the brain, emotional and rational side. The brothers Heath recognize the powerful emotional factor as the elephant. The rational decision process component is secondary and is sitting on the elephant as the rider. In the conflict between the twoThere is the inherent Rider being the underdog. For lasting change, the elephant and rider need to unite. Also key is the design of the Path. Following the last of three articles on additional considerations on each of the triad of points. Here the focus is the design of the path, and the conclusion of "Switch" take-away.

Shape the path clear direction.

Tweak the environment. What looks like a person problem is often a situational challenge. People have a systematictendency to ignore situational forces to shape other people's behavior. "This fundamental attribution error" results from our tendency to the behavior of people on the way the situation they are in. A good example of it vs. attribute is an acceleration of the driver. Do they run regularly over the speed limit? Or they may be due to circumstances, the acceleration, because they're too late for an appointment? Through optimization of the environment can make a huge impact on situations for the better and more direct means ofRider.
